Two sculptures for a new life

The artist repeatedly uses forms to illustrate the concept of personal growth (particularly re-birth and self-renewal).
This monumental scale sculpture, entitled "Seedling" took 8 months of solid labor to create. It is carved from a 10,000 lb. block of Georgia Pink Marble (the artist's all-time favorite!). It measures 8' high x 4' wide x 3' thick. It is shown on a 2' high concrete footer that is a permanent fixture of the studio property (not included).
It has a polished outer form, with a frosted interior and frosted leaf veins. The artist also uses an alternate title of "Phoenix Flower", making reference to the recreation of the Phoenix from its ashes.
This sculpture has been SOLD!!!  It has been installed in the Robert T. Webb Sculpture Garden in Dalton, Georgia.
This sculpture is entitled "Revelation", but the artist also refers to this piece as "Princess". It is Indiana Limestone, measuring 51" high x 43" wide x 28" front-to-back, and weighs approximately 1,500 lbs.
It has polished leaves, a stippled inner array of forms and gently spiralling grooved forms that were made with a forked Italian pneumatic chisel. The base has a polished top with natural 'rock pitch' sides.!!!SOLD!!

Two Fountain Bubblers

These next two functional sculptures are intended as centerpieces for a fountain.
This bubbler is entitled "Stele #1" and was inspired by the Maya carved Stele of MezoAmerica.
This sculpture has polished forms, incised lines, a stippled inner surface (for a rippling effect with water) and natural stone surfaces. It is Indiana Limestone, measuring 19" high x 8" x 8" and weighs approximately 60 lbs.
There is a video of it running with water on youtube. Just search "Stele #1 by Don Lawler". It sells for $499.00 which includes free shipping, handling and insurance within the contiguous United States.
This functional sculpture (fountain bubbler) is entitled "Wrapped". It is Indiana Limestone, measuring 12" high x 14" wide x 8" thick and weighs 40 lbs. It has a polished outer form that complements the stippled inner form (made with a bush chisel). It sells for $499.00, which includes shipping, handling and insurance within the contiguous United States.

"Thank You" stone sculpture

Music is a big source of inspiration for this artist. The title for this piece comes from the Sly & the Family Stone song "Thank you (falettin' me be mice elf, again)".
It is carved from a single block of Indiana Limestone, measuring 21" high x 10" x 8" and weighing approximately 70 lbs.
It was created without any preconceptions - free carving at its purest. The gently spirally lines were created with a forked Italian pneumatic chisel.

Mushroom Bench and Exposure Berm Sculpture

This is a "Mushroom" bench that features the artist's signature style of intertwining organic forms. It has a polished top that is ergonomically comfortable for prolonged relaxation. The gills and roots are carved with an Italian forked pneumatic chisel. The difference in the textures is visually and tactilely pleasing.
It is Indiana Limestone, measuring 61" long x 23" high x 18" front-to-back and weighs approximately 1,000 lbs. It sells for $2,995.00, and includes free delivery and installation within 100 miles of the Stephensport, KY studio.
This sculpture is entitled "Exposure". It has a polished geometric progression of segmented parts that give the appearance of opening to reveal an inner lens-shaped form that has a stippled texture (made with a carbide bush chisel). It is Indiana Limestone, measuring 40" long x 21" high x 13" thick and weighs approximately 400 lbs.
It is designed to either appear that it is emerging from the ground (like the first picture) or it can be a crowning element on a small curved berm (like this computer image shows). Compositionally, it would become a major focal point, if it is installed on a berm.

Contemporary Bench and Birdbath

Here are 2 functional sculptures by the artist that have a contemporary design.
This bench is entitled "Pathways" and it represents the various possibilities and lines of fate that people are given in life. It is Indiana Limestone, 52" wide x 21" high x 15" deep and weighs approximately 400 lbs.
It has polished surfaces with incised lines that borders stippled stone (made using a bush chisel.  !!!SOLD!!!
This is "Facet", which is a bird bath that was inspired by the fact that many people have a variety of interests and aspects to their personality. It has a polished top with a textured base that tapers in to the middle. The layering effect is in a geometric progression that gets wider as the waist gets narrower - which creates an interesting visual effect.
It is Indiana Limestone, measuring 34" high x 31" wide x 19" front-to-back, and weighs approximately 400 lbs. !!!SOLD!!!

"Summertime" Female Torso Fragment

This is one of the rare figurative studies by this artist. Most of his work is contemporary in nature; usually with functional aspects for private gardens.
The artist loves figurative work (particularly the youthful female form). From time-to-time he will do a sculpture like this - purely for the fun of it.
The hips of the thinly proportioned young woman are wrapped in a textured covering and fastened with a large circular clasp.
It is carved from Indiana Limestone with overall dimensions of 55" high x 19" x 19" and about 400 lbs.
This sculpture shows the figure in implied motion. It is a physical metaphor for independence and confidence. It is a celebration of beauty and the enjoyment of life.
This sculpture retails for $2,800.00. The artist will freely assist in arranging logistics for delivery and installation.

"Get Moving" monolithic bench sculpture

This functional sculpture is a whimsical departure from the more serious sculptures by this artist.  It shows machine parts of unknown purpose emerging from the matrix of natural stone.
This bench is carved from a single quarry block of Indiana Limestone that weighs between 5 and 6 tons. It has polished and chisel textured forms that complement the natural stone surfaces of the quarry block.
It measures 9'-6" wide x 4' high x 4' thick. It has the full range of geological possibilities that can be found in Indiana Limestone. There are "dogtooth" Calcite crystals, marcasite veins, stylolites, a wide range of fossils and oolitic spheres in the stone block.
This is the back side of the bench. You can see that it has extreme variagation in color. This was the side of the stone block that caught the artist's eye while examining quarry blocks in Reed Quarry of Bloomington, Indiana. The artist had never seen such a range of color change within a single block - he had to have it!
The main composition involves a creative array of machine parts that emerge from the natural stone matrix.
This huge functional sculpture will endure extremes of weather and heavy human interaction for generations. It is available for $8,000.00. The artist will freely offer assistance in arranging the logistics of delivery and installation.
